STOCKHOLM (Sputnik) – On Monday, Swedish media reported that, according to initial observations, a mini-submarine found by Swedish divers last week off the coast of their country was a Russian vessel sunk in 1916. The divers did not descend to the vessel immediately, but used submersible equipment with a camera.
Later, the claims that the sunken vessel was a Russian submarine were confirmed by Swedish Navy analysts, who had been provided with some images of the vessel.
"We will continue to take pictures and videos of the submarine, we are planning to descend divers to [further] explore it," Peter Lindbergh said.
Earlier in the day, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the Russian Geographical Society planned to invite its Swedish colleagues to organize a joint expedition to explore the submarine.
Ocean X Team has not received any proposals from Russian organizations on the matter to date, Lindbergh said.
