WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore has become the 33rd Republican candidate to enter 2016 US presidential race, according to local media reports.
On Wednesday, Gilmore filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, USA Today reported.
Gilmore served as Virginia governor from 1998 to 2002, and ran for the 2008 White House presidency.
At present, US billionaire Donald Trump is leading the pack of 2016 Republican presidential candidates with 23 percent of votes, according to a Washington Post and ABC News poll.
The Republican presidential field currently has 17 major presidential candidates that poll most of the voter support. Billionaire businessman Donald Trump leads the Republican presidential hopefuls ahead of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
