VLADIVOSTOK (Sputnik) — Russia will deliver more than 140,000 tonnes of cargo for the troops deployed in the Arctic, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Dmitry Bulgakov said Thursday.
"During 2015 we plan to deliver more than 140,000 tonnes of various supplies," Bulgakov told journalists.
He added that in order to improve the region's environmental situation the ships bringing the cargo for the Russian troops in the Arctic would be taking all the metal scrap and solid waste from the islands in the region on their way back.
Earlier in July, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the development of military infrastructure in the Arctic and introducing advanced technologies to facilitate logistics for the troops were among the main priorities of the Russian Armed Forces.
