ANKARA (Sputnik) – An unidentified masked individual has opened fire on people relaxing in a courtyard of a small hotel outside the southwestern Turkish resort town of Bodrum, killing at least one and injuring at least two others, Anadolu news agency reported Thursday.
According to reports, the victims of the shooting were relatives of the hotel’s owner.
Police are searching for the perpetrator. The incident has not been declared a terrorist act yet.
Tensions have mounted in Turkey after a suicide bombing attack in the city of Suruc near the Syrian border last week that killed 32 people. In the same week, two police officers were murdered in the southern Turkish city of Ceylanpinar.
The Suruc suicide bomber was reported to be affiliated with the Islamic State militant group. The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) claimed responsibility for the Ceylanpinar killings, claiming that the killed policemen backed ISIL.
