RIGA (Sputnik) —The United States will start the deployment of heavy military equipment in Latvia in the fall of 2015, Commander of the Latvian Armed Forces Raimonds Graube said Friday.
“The deployment of American equipment in Latvia will start in the fall of this year,” Graube said upon his return from the United States.
Earlier this week, the Latvian Ministry of Defense said it had initiated negotiations with the United States on the issue of deploying US heavy military equipment at the Adazi military base by the end of the year.
Latvia has been a NATO member since 2004. Currently, about 150 US paratroopers are stationed in the country on a rotating basis.
