DONETSK (Sputnik) – At least 7 people were killed and 19 others were injured in the city of Horlivka in Ukraine’s southeast in July amid continuing shelling by Ukrainian forces, the city administration announced.
"In July, 7 civilians were killed. Nineteen people, including 3 children, sustained wounds of various degrees," a representative of the Horlivka mayoral office was quoted as saying by the Donetsk News Agency on Saturday.
On Friday, the Horlivka mayoral office said that at least 164 people, including 16 children, in the city have died in shelling conducted by Ukrainian forces in the past half a year. About 500 others were injured in the same period.
Horlivka authorities reported that the city was under fire from Kiev forces late Thursday, as well as late Friday night.
Violence in Ukraine’s southeast continues despite the February ceasefire agreement signed by representatives of Kiev and the self-proclaimed people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk in the Belarusian capital, Minsk.
Both Kiev and DPR and LPR (Lugansk People’s Republic) have accused each other of ceasefire violations.
According to UN estimates, fighting in eastern Ukraine, which started in mid-April 2014, has killed over 6,500 people.
