ANKARA (Sputnik) — Turkish authorities will join the Kurdish community in northern Iraq to conduct a joint investigation over the reported deaths of civilians during the Turkish Air Force’s airstrikes on the positions of Kurdish militants, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Saturday.
"News reports about civilian casualties during the air operation on the Zergele Camp, which the PKK terrorist organization uses for logistic and coordination purposes, have been received with sorrow. All the allegations that have been brought forward will be investigated fully and a joint study will be also be meticulously conducted with the authorities of the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Administration on this matter," the statement by the ministry read.
Ankara launched a two-front military campaign last week against Islamic State jihadists in Syria and the PKK in northern Iraq, in response to an unprecedented escalation of violence across southern Turkey.
