SAN DIEGO (USA) (Sputnik) – San Diego 350, a group of Californian environmental activists protested against fracking operations in the state, the local media reported.
"It's simple — we're asking Governor Brown to ban fracking in California. We feel that in comparing benefits and risks, the risks are much higher to Californians," Nicole Peill-Moelter of San Diego 350 said Saturday, as quoted by San Diego Reader newspaper.
She added that the activists gathered about 3,000 signatures as part of an ongoing public awareness campaign.
Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is a technique of extracting shale gas and oil by injecting pressurized liquid into the ground.
Environmentalists insist that fracking endangers the environment through leakage and the spillage of poisonous liquid materials and fracking fluids into the groundwater.
