One pilot was killed and another escaped with a concussion and a spinal injury after the Mi-28 helicopter they were piloting crashed at a Russian military air show.
Dramatic footage showed the helicopter crash after what turned out to be a hydraulic system failure, with one pilot narrowly escaping before the craft became consumed by fire.
"The crew fought for the helicopter's life to the end. When it hit the ground, the crew commander was unfortunately killed, the second pilot is alive. According to the second pilot, the catastrophy happened because of an aviation equipment failure," Russian Air Force commander Viktor Bondarev said.
The helicopter was part of the Berkuty (Golden Eagles) aerobatics team. Following the crash, all Mi-28 flights were suspended.
