KUALA LUMPUR (Sputnik) – Malaysia has shown understanding of Russia's position on the establishment of a tribunal on last year's downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.
On July 29, Russia vetoed a UN Security Council resolution, submitted by Malaysia, to create an international tribunal to prosecute those responsible for the MH17 crash.
"Absolutely not. In addition to an ASEAN meeting, I have a bilateral meeting with Malaysia's foreign minister. I have found full understanding of the Russian position," Lavrov told reporters, asked whether Russia's veto could affect relations between the two countries and Russia's relations with ASEAN.
