WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Clintons donated $3 million in 2014, more than half of which was disbursed to the family-owned Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation, local media reported on Wednesday.
Tax returns, released by Hillary Clinton’s campaign, revealed the Clintons’ nonprofit foundation received $1.8 million out of the $3 million, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
On Friday, the campaign underscored the amount of Clinton’s donations and said it represented almost 11 percent of her 2014 income.
Under US law, charitable contributions can be deducted and may help lower taxes, according to the Internal Revenue Service.
In 2015, US independent corporation that evaluates charities, the Charity Navigator, put the Clinton Foundation on its watch list because of the its “atypical” business model.
