WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The airstrikes are a part of the coalition’s Operation Inherent Resolve that aims to eliminate the Islamic State, according to US Central Command.
“In Syria, coalition military forces conducted seven airstrikes using fighter, fighter-attack, bomber and remotely piloted aircraft,” CENTCOM said. “Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 22 airstrikes coordinated with the Government of Iraq using attack, fighter-attack, bomber and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Islamic State] targets.”
The airstrikes in Syria destroyed seven Islamic State tactical units, seven fighting positions and four vehicles near Al Hasakah and Ar Raqqah, according to CENTCOM.
The airstrikes in Iraq, CENTCOM added, eliminated ten Islamic State tactical units, 19 fighting positions, four vehicles, and seven staging areas near Fallujah, Habbanlyah, Hit, Makhmur, Mosul, Ramadi, Sinjar, and Tal Afar.
The coalition has carried out more than 5600 airstrikes in its air campaign against the Islamic State since August 2014.
