WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A number of US citizens and dual nationals of Iran have been harassed and arrested, the State Department said.
“This deal over Iran's nuclear program does not alter the United States' assessment of the risks of travel to Iran for US citizens.”
It warned that the United States still does not have official relations with Iran and that services to US citizens are limited.
“Iranian authorities deny the US Interests Section in Tehran access to imprisoned dual national Iranian-American citizens because Iranian authorities consider them to be solely Iranian citizens; access to US citizens without dual nationality is often denied as well.”
Iranian-Americans are considered by Tehran to be citizens of Iran even if they lack an Iranian passport or have never visited the country.
