KIEV (Sputnik) — The detention was conducted by a special SBU group in cooperation with the SBU office in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
"On August 5… four members of a criminal gang who tried to sell a nuclear material in the Ivano-Frankivsk region were detained. According to preliminary data, the nuclear material is believed to be uranium-238."
According to the statement, the head of the SBU, Vasil Gritsak, has reported to Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko on the case.
The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine and the state emergency service are expected to participate in further investigation of the seized nuclear material.
