US President Barack Obama was dishonest and misled the American public on the issue of the Iranian nuclear deal during his Wednesday speech at American University, US activist and author David Swanson said during a Radio Sputnik BradCast with Brad Friedman.

On Sanders' Militarism and Obama's Iran 'Propaganda'
During his speech, President Obama criticized US senators, who oppose the nuclear deal between Iran and the group of international negotiators, stressing the importance of solving the issue using diplomacy.

"Let's not mince words: the choice we face is ultimately between diplomacy and some sort of war," Obama said.

Although Swanson was partially happy with Obama's call for peace, he said the US President was pushing a false idea that Iran was trying to develop nuclear weapons and that is why it is a threat to the United States. The truth is, however, that Obama has "absolutely zero evidence" of that, Swanson said during BradCast.

"It's extremely dishonest and misleading. He doesn't specify that the deal was about Iran's energy program. Nobody's going to pick up on that," Swanson said.

In other words, Obama halted not Iran's nuclear weapons program, but its nuclear energy program. Most people fail to understand that Iran's nuclear program was exclusively for energy, however Western propaganda pushed by the United States combined and misinterpreted the two different ideas, Swanson said.
