MADRID (Sputnik) – On Thursday, the defense ministry in Spain said that four US Reaper surveillance drones were included in the 2016-2020 budget. The five-year program drone will cost 171 million euros ($186 million).
"The State Budget, presented on Tuesday, is expected to be adopted before the general elections, but, depending on the government that wins, it could undergo modifications, including the project to buy the megadrones," the spokesperson said.
Spanish general elections will be held on September 20. The People’s Party, led by current prime minister Mariano Rajoy, will seek reelection.
An official poll released Thursday showed that Rajoy's party still enjoys majority support, but could be undermined by new parties, such as the anti-austerity Podemos, and opposition Socialists.
