The Netherlands is the biggest exporter of flowers to Russia. At the same time, according to the watchdog, the majority of cases when Rosselkhoznadzor revealed quarantined organisms in cut flowers imported from 15 countries was related to the Netherlands.
“Rosselkhoznadzor has received a request from Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), in which the European side also offered to hold consultations on the issue of Dutch flower imports to the Russian Federation,” the statement read.
DG SANTE is one of the European Commission’s departments, responsible for the people’s health, safety of food and consumer rights.
The Russian watchdog added that all the questions regarding phytosanitary condition of Dutch flowers have to be discussed by means of consultations at the level of technical experts from the national organizations in charge of regulating and protecting plants.
