MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday, during televised presidential debates, Trump said Fox News reporter Megyn Kelly who was among the moderators, had "blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever" while she questioned him on issues including his past controversial statements about women.
Trump’s rivals for the GOP nomination scolded the billionaire for the comments, saying they would undercut their party’s standing with women.
"Do you think I'd make a statement like that? Who would make a statement like that? Only a sick person would even think about that," Trump told CNN on Sunday.
The real estate mogul added he valued and cherished women and said "nothing wrong," just meaning Kelly's nose or ears would probably bleed due to tense remarks.
Trump also blamed several other Republicans who have criticized his remarks about Kelly of fueling the controversy.
On Saturday, the RedState Gathering, a popular conference among the Republicans, retracted Trump’s invitation citing his sexist remarks as the reason for the move.
Donald Trump, who announced his presidential campaign in mid-July, has emerged as the front-runner among 2016 Republican presidential candidates in the United States despite his controversial comments, including with regard to women and Mexican immigrants.
There are more than a dozen candidates in the Republican presidential field, including Donald Trump, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush.
The US presidential election is scheduled for November 8, 2016.
