MOSCOW (Sputnik) Moscow is calling on all countries that have information regarding the crash of the Malaysian Airlines MH17 flight in eastern Ukraine last year to come forward, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday.

"We strongly urge, and have been urging for a year, all countries who have any information to make it known," Maria Zakharova told Rossiya-24 television channel.

According to the spokeswoman, Russia urgently seeks to identify and prosecute those responsible for the MH17 disaster.

"But it must be done accordingly with international law, which is what all the Russian Federation representatives have been talking about repeatedly," Zakharova said.

On July 17, 2014, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crashed in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, killing all 298 people, mostly Dutch citizens, on board. Kiev and the local militias blame each other for the crash.

The Dutch Safety Board was chosen to head the official international probe into the MH17 crash. Its final report is due in October.

Last month, Malaysia submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council calling for the creation of an independent UN tribunal to seek answers into the air tragedy.

Russia vetoed the proposal, insisting that the final official report by the Dutch Safety Board must come first, and that the UN tribunal might be aimed at concealing investigation failures.
