WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The cybersecurity division within the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will report directly to the secretary on security breaches, DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said in a statement.
“I have determined that we must elevate the NCCIC [National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center] within our Department’s structure, with an incident reporting line directly to me as Secretary,” Johnson said in a statement on Monday.
The Secretary also directed National Protection and Programs Directorate to develop a plan to strengthen NCCIC to respond to cyber threats.
DHS is one of the lead agencies in the US government responsible for protecting federal government systems from cyberattacks.
