MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Moscow would not like to see any influential country involved in the situation around Syria hoping for a military solution to President Bashar Assad’s fate because that would mean the country would be taken over by the Islamic State, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday.
“I would really not want to see that any one of the influential countries involved in the situation around Syria in one way or another is hoping the problem of Bashar Assad may be solved using military means because the only method of such a military resolution would mean a power grab by Islamic State militants,” Lavrov said during a joint press conference with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Jubeir in Moscow.
