"The secrecy of the TTIP casts a shadow on the future of European democracy. Under this cover, special interests are running wild, much as we saw with the recent financial siege against the people of Greece. The TTIP affects the life of every European and draws Europe into long term conflict with Asia. The time for its secrecy to end is now," WikiLeaks head Julian Assange was quoted in a statement published on the organization's website.
According to the statement, early pledges have been made by several high-profile activists, including former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, esteemed UK fashion designer Vivienne Westwood and Assange himself.
The TTIP is being negotiated in unusual secrecy, receiving strong criticism in Europe. The agreement’s stated goal is to ease the flow of goods and services across the Atlantic.
Earlier this year, WikiLeaks launched a campaign to raise a $100,000 reward for the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) trade deal.
