MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Pegida Switzerland head Mike Spielmann from the northern Swiss canton of Thurgau along with candidates from the cantons of Solothurn and St. Gallen will represent the Direct Democratic Party of Switzerland (DPS) in the parliamentary elections in October, local newspaper Tagblatt Thurgau reported Tuesday.
The DPS is a small right-wing party, reportedly comprising about 100 members.
The Pegida movement calls for increasingly strict immigration rules in Germany and has staged protests against what it sees as an "Islamisation" of the West.
Germany has faced the largest number of EU member-state asylum applications in 2014. The asylum seekers originate mostly in Muslim-majority countries Syria and Afghanistan, according to UN data.
