MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The number of EU migrant workers in the United Kingdom reached almost 2 million, the UK Office for National Statistics said Wednesday.
"Between April to June 2014 and April to June 2015, the number of non-UK nationals from the European Union (EU) working in the UK increased by 250,000 to reach 1.98 million," the office's statistical bulletin on the UK labour market said.
The bulletin said that the number of people from outside the United Kingdom working there had increased from 3.7 percent of the total workforce in the country in April-June 1997 to 10.3 percent for the same period of 2015, in large part due to the accession of new member states to the European Union.
Some 268,000 EU citizens immigrated to the United Kingdom in 2014 alone, according to the UK Office for National Statistics.
