Sanders gave an exclusive interview to Nicole Sandler of Radio Sputnik BradCast's affiliate RadioOrNot.com, in which he did explain some of his views, although they were primarily in terms of US budgeting.
"If you have an aggressive foreign policy, if you think the United States should have ground troops in the Middle East, if you think we should be engaged in perpetual warfare, well, then you're going to have a larger military budget. Needless to say, that's not my view," Sanders said.
Sanders also said that Saudi Arabia, as the county with the world's third-largest defense budget, has to "step up" in regional security operations against groups such as ISIL and al-Qaeda.
Sanders did not make his foreign policy views more clear in general, although he said that "the Muslim countries" should be putting boots on the ground to fight ISIL, rather than the US.
