WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A mentally disturbed Hispanic-American has been executed by lethal injection in Texas after last minute appeals from his attorneys were rejected on Wednesday evening, media report said.
Daniel Lee Lopez, 27, was put to death in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Polunsky Unit near Livingston for running down and killing Corpus Christi Police Lieutenant Stuart Alexander with his vehicle during a police chase in 2009, ABC News reported on Wednesday.
Lopez had repeatedly expressed his desire to die and several US courts had ruled he was mentally competent to make that decision, the report said.
His execution was the tenth in Texas in 2015, which is a larger number of executed people than in any other US state, the report noted.
Earlier on Wednesday, the US Supreme Court refused to take any action to prevent or delay the execution.
