Opposition Haqq Party's political office member Ahmed Bahri claims that Houthi rebels are ready to give the territories under their control in Yemen to the government army, but not to the forces led by Riyadh.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Houthi rebels are ready to give the territories under their control in Yemen to the government army, but not to the forces led by Riyadh, opposition Haqq Party's political office member Ahmed Bahri said Thursday.

Yemen has been engulfed in a conflict between the Houthi political opposition faction and government forces since 2014. President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi was forced to flee the country, asking Saudi allies for help.

In late March, a Saudi-led coalition began carrying out airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen. Speaking of the party's attitude to Hadi, Bahri said the party was against his return.

"Hadi and his entourage fled Yemen and will not return here. All Yemenis are against his return, as they participated in the bloodshed of the Yemeni people," Bahri said.

The politician stressed that Houthis "will not allow people to die of hunger and will take the necessary measures to bring peace and stability and protect the Yemenis from any political or military aggression."

According to the World Health Organization estimates, up to 2,000 people have died and over 8,000 have been wounded since the conflict escalated in the spring.
