MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The minister made his remarks during a meeting with former coordinator of Syria's National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change Haytham Manna.
"These days, Russia, in close contact with our partners among the Arab Gulf countries, other countries in the region, in contact with American colleagues, and supported by European partners, is seeking to help ensure the unification of all opposition fores [in Syria] as soon as possible," Lavrov said.
Earlier this week, during the talks with Saudi Arabia and the Syrian opposition, Lavrov called for a political deal to lay the basis for the stabilization of the situation in Syria.
Saudi and Russian officials have agreed to assist in further negotiations between the Syrian government and the opposition.
