MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Chinese authorities temporarily banned producing, transporting and trading explosives along with hazardous chemicals after an explosion occurred in an area where toxic chemicals were stored in the industrial city of Tianjin, CCTV reported Friday.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in a warehouse storing dangerous substances. Flammable goods reportedly triggered twin blasts at a container terminal, following a massive fire.
According to CCTV, the ban is set to come into effect on August 17 and will last until September 6. Production and transportation of flammable and toxic substances will be also suspended during this period. Warehouses with hazardous substances are expected to be closed temporarily.
According to Chinese People's Daily newspaper, over 720 people in Tianjin received injuries as a result of the massive explosions, while 56 people, including 21 firefighters, have been confirmed dead.
