The murderers of the legendary Cuban revolutionary Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara wanted to cut off his head after the execution, a former CIA agent said in a radio interview on Friday.

“They took several days to decide what to do… General Ovando Candia, the Bolivian military chief of staff, then said: “We need irrefutable proof in case [Fidel]Castro denies [that Che Guevara is dead],” Felix Rodriguez told Latvian radio station Baltkom.

He said that he told the General he could not do it because, being the country’s military chief of staff, Candia just wouldn't be able to present a severed human head as material proof.

Rodriguez said that if they needed ironclad proof they could cut off a finger. They had Che Guevara's fingerprints made by Argentinean police, so the whole story could be verified.

“The General then ordered us to cut off both his hands,” RIA Novosti quoted Rodriguez as saying.

According to Rodriguez, a doctor was then ordered to cut off the dead revolutionary’s hands, which were subsequently taken to Cuba, placed in a building on Revolution Square in Havana and shown only to foreign heads of state and government visiting the island.

On October 8, 1967 the guerilla unit led by Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara was ambushed by the Bolivian army. The Comandante was taken prisoner by CIA agents and executed.
