The officer encountered the two assailants while making his rounds when one of them grabbed his gun and shot him.
Security forces found the officer’s discarded gun after surrounding and searching the Interior Ministry complex.
According to Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, the officer is wounded in the abdomen, but faces no life-threatening injuries. Cazeneuve said authorities are unaware of any motive behind the attacks, but the suspects may have been pursuing “financial gain” while inside the building which houses a garage.
French law-enforcement officials remain on high alert following a January attack by Islamist extremists which left 17 people dead along with the attackers.
