The new economic development strategy just released by the Ukrainian government is vague, short on substance and unable to improve the perilous state of the country’s economy, a Ukrainian newspaper wrote on Saturday.

Ukraine Among Top Three Economies Most Likely to Default
Apparently heeding their experts’ advice, the government finally came up with an economic development roadmap, proudly titled “A Road to Prosperity,” whose authors tried to outline the fundamental principles of reforming the country’s dying economy, the newspaper Dzerkalo Tizhnya (Weekly Mirror) wrote.

“The strategy is full of truisms and is simply unviable. It offers nothing new and fails to show the road to prosperity promised by its title,” the paper noted.

Industrial production in Ukraine has been contracting the past three years and GDP has dropped a hefty 17.6 percent since January.

In its desperate attempts to fill the state coffers the government keeps devaluating the hryvnia.

Having no faith in the government’s ability to improve the situation the business community is reverting to the tried and true methods of tax evasion and is inventing ever new ways of hiding their earnings.

“The businessmen, who only recently hoped  that the government would finally start implementing its much-promised reforms, no longer believe they will ever come. And the more  populist and empty promises the government makes, the less faith people have in a better future for this country,” the newspaper wrote in collusion.
