BERLIN (Sputnik) – Angela Merkel has been holding position of Germany’s chancellor since November 2005. She became the first female chancellor in the history of the country. Following 2009 and 2013 federal elections Merkel was reappointed as the head of the government.
“The moment for making this decision has not come yet,” Schauble said in an interview with the German ZDF television channel on Monday.
He said that Angela Merkel of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the incumbent chancellor, was very successful and authoritative both in Germany and abroad. According to Schauble, the Social Democratic Party of Germany, the main rival of the CDU, had discussed the necessity of nomination on these elections, because of little chances to win Merkel.
German Federal Chancellor is elected by the Bundestag, the German parliament, for four years. The next federal election will be held in Germany in 2017.
