"If someone is stopped for no reason or inappropriately then that person is a victim. I want the restorative justice approach for cops," the force's police and crime commissioner Adam Simmonds said, as quoted by The Guardian.
According to the newspaper, the Northamptonshire police and crime commissioner called for a nationwide implementation of this policy to enhance trust in police.
A report on the use of the stop-and-search practice in Northamptonshire revealed that almost two-thirds of those stopped and searched by police were aged between 13 and 24, while black people were found to be subjected to the practice more often than their white peers across England and Wales.
According to the newspaper, police often use their stop-and-search powers against ethnic minorities and young people. British Home Secretary Theresa May has threatened legal action for abuse of the tactic by law enforcement.
