A regular passenger sea route from Sochi to Abkhazia has recently been launched due to high tourist demand.
The trip is expected to start in Sochi in the morning and end with the catamaran returning from Abkhazia in the evening. The journey time will be about 1.5 hours.
"This is the only maritime traffic at the moment. The route enjoys high demand. It is a real help for cars and trains that are now going to Abkhazia. The ship has a future […]," Gordienko said.
The working schedule of the vessel will depend on weather conditions. In the event of a storm warning, the journey may be canceled or delayed. The catamaran is expected to run until October, but if demand is high enough, the schedule can be prolonged: not only for tourists but also for the inhabitants of Sochi and Abkhazia.
"If the demand will continue to grow, we will have to launch the second catamaran in 2016," Gordienko said.
