MOSCOW (Sputnik), Yulia Shamporova — US online retailer Amazon treats its employees as profit-making tools, the general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) told Sputnik on Tuesday.
On Sunday, US media published a report unveiling extremely tough working conditions for Amazon employees, including excessively long working hours.
“Treated like robots, bullied, refused the right to organize and bargain for fair wages and conditions, Amazon workers are seen by the company as merely the tools of profit,” Sharan Burrow said.
According to Burrow, Amazon's reputation as a global distributor of literature, music and culture is a facade hiding the denial of rights and dignity for the company’s workforce.
CEO of Amazon Jeff Bezos was voted to be the worst boss in the world at the global congress of the ITUC in Berlin in 2014, she added.
