"We proceed on the basis that our US colleagues send us signals on whether they want to continue maintaining contacts. If there is such a proposal from their side, I think our president will consider it constructively," Lavrov told reporters.
Relations between Russia and the United States started to plummet in the spring of 2014, following Crimea's secession from Ukraine and reunification with Russia. The internal conflict in eastern Ukraine, which began in April 2014, further contributed to the worsening of Russia-US ties.
Washington accused Moscow of meddling in Ukraine's internal affairs and together the EU member states, slapped Russia with several rounds of economic sanctions targeting the country's banking, energy and defense sectors.
Moscow has repeatedly stated it was ready to resume dialogue with the West, but on terms of mutual respect and equal partnership.
