WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in August, the Federal Bureau of Investigation launched an investigation into the security of Clinton's private email server.
"I'm stunned that her staff allowed her to do that in 2009 given the unhappy outcome that was guaranteed once you started doing that," Hayden said in an interview on Morning Joe. "Put legality aside just for a second, it's stupid and dangerous."
Clinton has been accused of wiping her private email server, and dodged reporters' questions on Tuesday whether the accusations were true.
Asked how he would have reacted, Hayden answered he would have "moved heaven and earth" to access the email account of a foreign minister.
"And I'd really go after an email account in which the official and the unofficial emails were comingled," Hayden noted.
On Tuesday, The Daily Mail reported that Clinton’s private email server had been stored in a bathroom closet managed by a small IT company called Platte River Networks.
Clinton has come under fire this spring for possible wrongdoing after media revealed her alleged evasion of transparency rules by using private servers for official communications while she served as Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013. The Intelligence Community Inspector General has indicated that some of Clinton’s emails contained sensitive information.
US Review of Clinton Emails Months Behind Schedule — State Department Official
An official told reporters on Wednesday that the US Department of State is months behind its schedule in reviewing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails.
"Last month, we were supposed to get to 15 percent and we got to 11," the official explained when asked how far behind the State Department was in reaching monthly targets to release Clinton e-mails. "It is going to take us [the State Department] a couple months to actually make up the ground we need to make up."
