RIGA (Sputnik) — A NATO conference on the role of media kicked off on Thursday in the Latvian capital, according to the event's organizing committee.
The Riga StratCom Dialogue: Perception Matters conference will be held on August 20 and 21.
During the event, participants — including representatives of NATO member states, as well as Ukraine and Georgia — are expected to discuss the role of social media in times of conflict. In addition to which, experts are due to discuss the impact of the media on society in periods of crisis.
The presidents of Latvia and Lithuania — Raymond Vejonis and Dalia Grybauskaite — as well as a delegation of US senators headed by John McCain, will participate in the summit.
Later in the day, the grand opening of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence will take place in Riga.
