BERLIN (Sputnik) —Earlier in the day, police in the city of Erfurt, located 40 miles to the northeast of Suhl, reported that riots had occurred in a Suhl refugee camp on Wednesday. Police said 13 people had been injured, including three officers.
"A 25-years old citizen of Afghanistan, responsible for the nighttime chaos in the refugee camp in Suhl was detained by police to ensure his security. He is in custody at the moment", the spokesperson told RIA Novosti.
According to the spokesperson, one of the migrants "showed disrespect to the religious beliefs of his neighbors," triggering a confrontation between refugees living at the camp. Police called in to resolve the conflict were attacked by a group of refugees.
The incident is yet another episode in the European Union's struggles with the high inflow of undocumented immigrants trying to enter the bloc, fleeing conflict-torn countries of the Middle East and North Africa.
