WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The announcement of Obama’s speech comes a day after 26 former and current leaders of Jewish organizations urged Congress to support the Iran nuclear deal.
“The President will participate in a live webcast to deliver remarks to and take questions from members of the North American Jewish community in an event co-sponsored by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and The Jewish Federations of North America,” the White House said.
Congress has until September 17 to fully review the final nuclear deal with Iran and decide whether to accept or reject it. Republicans and some Democrats have been critical of the deal and questioned how it will impact Israel’s security.
Obama has threatened to veto any resolution of disapproval from Congress. In order to block a presidential veto, both the House of Representatives and Senate would have to secure a two-thirds majority vote.
