South, North Korea to Resume High-Level Talks to Ease Tensions on Sunday
Seoul and Pyongyang will continue high-level talks later Sunday in a bid to stave off a possible military confrontation on the peninsula, local media reported.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Saturday, a South Korean senior official said that the two sides had agreed to hold the negotiations in the border village of Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone. Shortly after that, North Korea confirmed it was ready for the talks and would join them.

The Yonhap news agency reported, citing the South Korean presidential spokesman that the talks were adjourned in the early hours of Sunday, and will continue later in the day.

The tensions on the divided Korean peninsula escalated on Thursday, as North Korea reportedly fired shells at a South Korean military base across the demilitarized zone. Seoul responded with dozens of heavy artillery rounds.
Following the exchange of fire, North Korea announced it was ready to bring its troops to full combat readiness.
The tensions between the neighbors come as Seoul resumed anti-Pyongyang propaganda broadcasts along the border, a practice it suspended more than a decade ago.
Saturday was the last day for Seoul to dismantle loudspeakers broadcasting propaganda under the North Korean ultimatum.
