MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Speaker of the lower house of the Russian parliament Sergei Naryshkin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi will discuss inter-parliamentary cooperation during Egypt's leader visit to Russia on Tuesday, Russia's State Duma deputy chief of staff Yuri Shuvalov said.
"Sergei Naryshkin will meet with the Egyptian President during the visit. They will discuss issues of cooperation, including inter-parliamentary cooperation," Shuvalov told RIA Novosti.
Egypt's parliament has not been formally functioning since 2012 as country's High court ruled entire parliament should be dismissed because of constitutional violations. Currently, the legislative functions in the country are carried out by the government and head of state.
The Egyptian parliamentary elections were originally scheduled for March, 2015 but the Supreme Constitutional Court ruled that the law regulating electoral districts was unconstitutional. Following the introduction of changes into the electoral law, Egypt is preparing for parliamentary elections later this year.
