MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A new poll, conducted in the United States and Europe by London-based ICM Research, on behalf of the international information agency and radio station Sputnik showed that most respondents (56 percent) are convinced that their local media are influenced by politicians and big business, which, in turn, affects the way they present information.
When answering the question, “In your opinion, do the popular media in your country provide an unbiased view on international and local events, or are they influenced by politicians and big business?” 75 percent of respondents in Italy, 69 percent in Spain and 60 percent in France said that they doubt that the information provided by their media is unbiased.
Over half of US respondents (53 percent) and 49 percent of Germans are also sure that politicians and corporations influence their media. Fewer people think so in the United Kingdom (43 percent), but 24 percent of respondents there could not answer the question.
The poll was held by ICM Research for the Sputnik news agency on May 1-4, 2015. In all, 8,243 people from various regions and of different age and gender took part in the poll: 2,005 in the United Kingdom, 1,041 in France, 1,050 in Germany, 1,051 in Spain, 1,049 in Italy and 2,047 in the United States. The confidence interval in a country is 3.1 percent, with a confidence coefficient of 95 percent.
