"While alliances with governments or businesses may damage an organisation’s ability to impart neutral, objective news, there is never an excuse to target the media," Anna-Claire Bevan stated.
Commenting on the reasons behind the decline in such core journalistic values as neutrality and impartiality, Bevan said that it could be explained by the fact that owners with political or business agendas to advance and little interest in balanced reporting had joined the profession.
"It is impossible to report every angle of a news story, but with greater access to online content, audiences may believe that the media coverage of international affairs in their countries is lacking objectivity if news reports fail to mention a particular angle that they have seen reported elsewhere," Bevan reasoned.
