WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Billionaire businessman and presidential hopeful Donald Trump is now supported by more than one third of Republican voters with five times the support for Jeb Bush or Scott Walker in New Hampshire, a new Public Policy Polling (PPP) poll revealed.
“[The poll] finds Donald Trump in the strongest position of any poll we've done anywhere since he entered the race,” PPP said in Tuesday’s statement. “Trump laps the Republican field with 35 percent to 11 percent for [Ohio Governor] John Kasich.”
“To give an idea of how fundamentally the contest has shifted over the last four months none of Trump, Kasich, and Fiorina weren't even included in the horse race question when we last polled the state in April,” PPP said.
The polling organization said Walker had suffered the most cataclysmic drop in support, from 24 percent in April down to 7 percent in August.
Senator Ted Cruz’s support in the state fell from 14 percent to 4 percent over the same period, while Senator Rand Paul slumped almost as badly from 12 percent to 4 percent, PPP said.
The New Hampshire primary will be held on February 6 and will be the first full-scale primary vote in the 2016 presidential election campaign. It is always closely scrutinized and often sets decisive patterns for voting in other northern eastern and major industrial states.
