MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A woman died and a man was seriously injured near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil after a vehicle they were driving was shot 39 times, local media reported.
The crime took place in the southeastern town of Sao Goncalo when the couple made their way to a bus station to pick up relatives. After the attack, Eliana Guerreiro, 60, died on the spot, while her companion, Roberto dos Santos, 56, was rushed to hospital in critical condition, Notimerica news portal reported.
The case is already being investigated by the Homicide Division of Niteroi, which currently does not rule out any motive for the killing, according to the news outlet.
The perpetrators were in three cars and two motorcycles, and shots were fired with two rifles of different calibers.
The area where the incident was registered is close to Favela da Alma region notorious for the ongoing confrontation between various drug gangs.
