"Y-12 receiving the airworthiness certificate is a significant event, as it was the first certificate a Chinese plane received in Russia and the post-Soviet space," Wu said at the MAKS-2015 airshow underway in Russia's city of Zhukovsky.
Wu stressed the importance of giving Chinese aircraft access to airports in Russia and members of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The Harbin Y-12 is a small turboprop aircraft. Its lifting capacity is about 1,800 kilograms (almost 4,000 pounds), and its maximum speed is about 280 miles per hour.
MAKS-2015 opened on Tuesday in the Russian city of Zhukovsky. More than over 400,000 visitors are expected during the course of the six-day event. About 760 companies from 35 countries are expected to participate in the air and space show.
