MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Slovak government approved on Wednesday presence of some 840 foreign soldiers in the country during the Slovak Shield NATO military drills starting in early September, local media reported.
Some 640 soldiers from the United States, 130 from the Czech Republic, 60 from Poland and 10 from Hungary are expected to arrive in Slovakia to participate in exercises that will take place between September 8 and October 31, according to the Slovak news website Teraz.
The troops will be using heavy military equipment, including artillery, armored vehicles and helicopters, the news outlet said.
The stated goal of the drills is to exercise crisis strategies and maintain national security and territorial integrity of Slovakia as a NATO member.
