WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The US Navy and defense contractor Raytheon will collaborate to develop advanced minehunting sonar capabilities to spot undersea threats, the company said in a press release on Thursday.
"Extending our long history of collaboration with our Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) neighbors, this project brings together our respective sonar experts to maximize the performance of a critical undersea warfare capability," Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems' Seapower Capability Systems Vice President Kevin Peppe said in the statement.
“Through a series of lab- and sea-based tests, the team will extensively evaluate and exercise the sonar's features to optimize the quality of both high- and low-resolution imaging,” the release read.
Raytheon is one of the US military’s top defense contractors.
